Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a maritime and military history museum.

It has an interesting collection of museum ships.

The museum could be seen in New York City. The location of it is at Pier 86

situated at 46th Street by the West Side of the popular Manhattan.

In the museum is showcased the carrier of aircraft USS Intrepid,

a Concorde SST, the submarine USS Growler,

the Space Shuttle Enterprise, and a Lockheed A-12 supersonic reconnaissance plane.

The museum was founded originally in 1983.

It closed doors for public in 2006 and after a big renovation of its facilities

and intrepid and reopened again two years later, in November.

When it opened for first time – in 1983 its situation

was the same as nowadays – at Pier 86 after Zachary Fisher.

This is a New York prominent real philanthropist

and estate developer, and Michael Stern – a brilliant journalist who

succeeded to save the Intrepid by scrapping in 1979.

In 1987 the USS Intrepid was turned into a National Historic Landmark.

The Intrepid served in 2001 as temporary field with headquarters

special for the FBI as it started its investigation of attacks toward World Trade Center.

On 01.10.06 this museum closed its doors to be repaired

and renovated to both the pier and the ship. Intrepid was replaced by

tugboat down the Hudson to The Peninsula

(Bayonne Harbor) in New Jersey where was the previously

Military Ocean Terminal to restore.

In 2006 it was the scheduled replace which was delayed. Then

the propellers stuck of ship in the thick mud named Hudson River,

in prevention of the tugboats by moving the ship away of the berth.

There was another successful attempt,

too which was made on December in the same year,

after operation that was extensive and dredging. The carrier

of aircraft was floated later to Staten Island. There the facilities of the museum
